For the 3rd time, a PET Bottle Christmas Tree was constructed at Wellawatta Beach using 1300+ bottles collected from the shorelines of Sri Lanka. This album contains images of the making of the tree till the final lighting.
Over 60 volunteers from The Pearl Protectors, Zero Trash LK and Rotaract Club of IIT came to support the construction.
Rotaractors also built Ecobrick benches near the tree using 150kgs of plastic waste.
This tree stands 12 feet high against single use plastic and its negative impact on our marine and coastal environments.
We celebrated a #PlasticFreeChristmas
The tree was on display till December 30, after which it was sent for recycling through Zero Trash.
